End-of-Life Doula
An End-of-Life Doula, or Death Doula, is someone who provides non-medical support to an individual during and through the dying process. This support often extends to their loved ones and is a wonderful complement to hospice care. Having an End-of-Life Doula helps streamline communication across the caregiving team and further bolster the care that is received.
As an End-of-Life Doula, I provide the practical, emotional and spiritual support needed during the final chapter of life. I think of doula support as filling the gaps of care that hospice cannot provide. In doing so, I help bring clarity to the often-overwhelming situation. I support individuals in maintaining their agency for as long as possible, so they can decide the type of care that they would like to receive. I hold a compassionate space and help process the intense emotions that often come during this time. Together, we can embark on end-of-life review and wrap up any last things that may need tending to. I help educate and empower families on how to care for their loved one in their final days so that they can transition with grace and ease.
Everyone’s needs are unique to them and together we will create a care plan, and detail your vision for vigil and final ceremony, that will best support you. This care is intended to nourish you on a physical and spiritual level.
